SabiHire is a Nigerian job marketplace. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what we do with your information. We have written it to match how the site actually works - not as boilerplate.
Who we are
SabiHire ("we", "us") operates this website. For questions about your data, email [email protected].
What we collect
When you create an account
- Your name and email address
- Your password, stored only as a scrypt hash - we never see or store the password itself and cannot recover it
- Whether you are a job seeker or an employer
- Your preferred city and the industries you're interested in
When you build a profile
- Your headline, summary, skills, experience level and highest qualification
- Your phone number, if you provide one
- Your CV, and your video CV if you are on SabiPro
When you apply for a job
- Which vacancies you applied for and when
- Any cover letter you wrote
When you post a vacancy
- The details of the role and your company name
- The application email address you give, if you take applications directly
When you pay
Payments are handled by Paystack and Flutterwave. Your card details never reach our servers. We store only a payment reference, the plan bought, the amount, and whether it succeeded.
What we do with it
- Run your account - signing you in, keeping you signed in, letting you reset a forgotten password
- Send your job alerts - a daily email of vacancies matching the city and industries you chose
- Deliver your applications - when you apply, your name, email and cover letter go to that employer
- Show you to employers, only if you ask us to - see below
- Take payment and give you the plan you paid for
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers.
Who can see your profile
Being searchable by employers is switched off by default. Nobody is shown to employers without opting in. With it off, only employers whose vacancies you actually applied to can see your details.
With it on, employers on our Business plan can find your profile, read your CV and watch your video CV. You can switch it back off at any time from your profile page, and you will stop appearing in searches immediately.
If you are on SabiPro you can see which employers viewed your profile. Employers are told this is visible to you.
Emails we send
- Daily job alerts - only if you opted in. Every one has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also switch them off in your settings.
- Account emails - welcome, password resets, application receipts, and notices about vacancies you posted. These are part of using the service and are not marketing.
How long we keep it
- Account and profile data: until you ask us to delete it
- Sign-in sessions: 30 days, then automatically removed
- Password reset links: one hour, single use, then deleted
- Uploaded CVs and videos: until you replace or delete them, or delete your account
How we protect it
- Passwords are hashed with scrypt and a unique salt for each person. A stolen database still would not reveal anyone's password.
- Password reset links are stored only as a hash, so the database cannot be used to reset anyone's password.
- Changing your password signs you out everywhere else.
- CVs and videos are never on a public web address - every request is checked against who is asking.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will tell you.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask us to:
- Show you the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything wrong - most of it you can edit yourself in settings
- Delete your account and everything attached to it
- Stop sending you job alerts, without closing your account
Email [email protected] and we will act within 30 days.
Cookies and similar
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. To keep you signed in we store a session token in your browser's local storage. Clearing your browser data signs you out.
Other companies involved
- Paystack and Flutterwave - process payments
- Google (Gmail) - delivers our email
- Google Fonts - serves the typeface used on this site
Children
SabiHire is not for anyone under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For anything significant, we will email you.
This policy describes accurately what the site does today. It is not legal advice. Before launching commercially, have a Nigerian lawyer review it against the NDPA 2023 and add your registered business name and address.
